Fibre Engineer


Reports to:

The Role:


To install Fibre Optic Networks


Responsibilities: General

To follow all company and client site safety rules.

Be courteous in dealings with the public, customers, clients, and colleagues.

To guard the work site to the Safety at Street Works and Road Works CoP.

To maintain client accreditation status.


Cable Installation OH

To identify the designated route for the installation.

To follow all pole loading, poling and overhead safety rules.

To site and use MEWPs, cable trailers, and cabling equipment safely.

To erect cable using the method appropriate for the cable being installed.

To seal cable ends.

To label and restrain installed cable.


Cable Installation UG

To identify the designated route and duct for the installation.

To guard all open structures and equipment.

To prepare the network structures and existing cables for cabling operations.

To use appropriate methods to install cabling rope.

To site and use winches, cable trailers and cabling equipment safely.

To install cable using the method appropriate for the cable being installed.

To identify and document the location of blockages

To seal cable ends.

To label and restrain installed cable.


Splicing

To create a suitable environment for splicing operations.

To prepare the cable and individual fibres for splicing.

To splice and/or terminate fibres using suitable calibrated equipment.

To manage fibres within the enclosure.

To close the cable to the standard required in the manufactures’ instructions.

To label and restrain the closure.

To use appropriate calibrated equipment to carry out tests in accordance with client requirements.


Test Rodding and Roping

To identify the designated route and duct for the installation.

To guard all open structures and equipment.

To prepare the network structures and existing cables for rodding operations.

To use appropriate methods to install cabling rope.

To identify and document the location of blockages



Skill/Experience:


Valid UK driving license.

Appropriate training in fibre optic installation practices.

Knowledge of relevant quality standards.

Aptitude for precision and working to exacting standards.


Qualifications:  


N23 - One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH build.

 NRSWA O1 Signing, lighting and guarding.

SA001 - Safety Overhead.

SA002 - Safety Underground.

NOPS Registration.

Powered Access License (IPAF).

Any other accreditation as required by the client.
